Magnetic filtration effectively removes fine ferrous and paramagnetic contaminants—such as iron sulfide and iron oxide— from hydrocarbons during production, transport, and refining.

Non-magnetic particles like chlorides, sodium and calcium salts, silica, and other abrasive, reactive particulates are also captured as they adhere to magnetic sludge.
